Hey folks,
Welcome to my new blog. For some time, I’ve been thinking about starting a blog inspired by my book, Creative Capital: Georges Doriot and the Birth of Venture Capital. But I never launched one because I wasn’t sure what its purpose would be. Well, I think I finally figured it out.
I would like this blog to serve two functions. First, I would like it to provide a forum to discuss the ideas, personalities and themes that I explore in my book and my work as a financial and technology journalist. Namely, venture capital, startups, entrepreneurs, innovation, technology, leadership, globilization and the history of finance. Given that my book is all about the birth of America’s entrepreneurial, high-tech economy, I think it makes sense to follow that creed, try something new, and see where it leads.
Second, I want the blog to serve as sort of the “DVD Extras” part of the book–a place where I can feature behind-the-scenes looks about the production and marketing of the book, interesting research and bits of material that didn’t make the final cut, and updates about Creative Capital’s reception and evolution as readers get a hold of it.
Friends and colleagues are always asking me, “How’s the book going?” Now I’ll have a place where I can point them to all the gory, er, exciting, details. So I’ll be posting here on a regular basis. (i.e. hopefully a few times a week.) Depending on how the blog goes, I may decide to continue it as a publishing platform. But I’m getting a bit ahead of myself!
So thanks for stopping by. Keep coming back. And join the conversation.
onward,
Spencer
